Life in Kosovo discusses life in “shame camps”

10 June 2009   This Thursday Life in Kosovo discusses Roma camps in northern Kosovo.

What is happening with the so-called “shame camps” in northern Kosovo? What is the level of blood poisoning of citizens living in these camps? Who should be responsible for improving the standard of living for the Roma in the camps?

To discuss these issues, and others regarding the camps, Muhamet Hajrullahu’s guests will be:

Shaip Muja, adviser to the Prime Minister and government coordinator for the Roma camps;
Bajram Rexhepi, Mayor of the Municipality of Mitrovica;
Hilmi Jashari, representative from the Ombudsperson Office;
Zylfi Merxha, representative of the Roma community and deputy  in the Parliament of Kosovo;
Zeqir Vesaj, environmental expert.

In the Culture in Kosovo section, Arif Muharremi reports on two festivals: 40Bunarfest held in Prizren and the Freedom Fest, scheduled for next Friday, in Prishtina.

Life in Kosovo is a co-production between Kosovo Public Television, RTK and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN. It is broadcast every Thursday, starting at 20:20.

Mitrovica poison camps

Posted: 2009-06-13 16:16:35,

Excellently filmed programme about this issue. The damage being caused to the health of the Roma children in Cesmin Lluc and Osterode is the tip of the iceberg of one of the worst environmental catastrophes in Europe, For UNMIK to have wiilfully incarcerated these children (and their parents) in the toxic environment of the camps for ten years is a crime on a monumental scale. Thank you very much for bringing this issue to wider public attention.
