Life in Kosovo debates plans for the new power plant Kosova Re

30 June 2009   This Thursday’s Life in Kosovo broadcasts a debate on energy, plans for the new lignite power plant in Kosovo, as well as renewable sources of energy.

What is the Kosova Re project? Which plan would best fulfill the economic needs of Kosovo but would also take care of the environment? What is the difference between the old plans for the power plant Kosova C, and the new Kosova Re proposal? Who is interested in investing in the scheme? How will the successful bidders guarantee that the energy produced will first go to Kosovar citizens, and then for export?

To discuss these issues, Jeta Xharra’s guests in the studio will be:

Justina Shiroka-Pula, Minister for Energy and Mining
Luan Shllaku, environmental expert
Shpend Ahmeti, economist
Ethem Çeku, former Minister for Energy and Mining

BIRN will also broadcast a TV report by Jeta Abazi, who explores the alternative sources of energy available in Kosovo.
Meanwhile, in our Culture in Kosovo section, Arif Muharremi reflects on the death of the King of the Pop, Michael Jackson.

Life in Kosovo is a co-production between Kosovo Public Television, RTK and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN. It is broadcast every Thursday, starting at 20:20.
