Life in Kosovo debates the future of Radio and Television of Kosovo

01 October 2009

This Thursday viewers of Life in Kosovo show, had the opportunity to watch a debate on Kosovo’s public television station, following the resignation of its general director.

Is there political pressure on RTK’s editorial policy? Was Agim Zatriqi, the general director of RTK,
pressured on his decision to resign? Are the candidates selected from the Ad Hoc Commission for the board of RTK competent and politically independent? Should the board be appointed soon or should they restart the nomination process for the sixth time? How will RTK be financed after its contract with KEK expires and after the reduction of advertisements because of the new law on the public broadcaster?

To discuss these and others about RTK, the following guests joined Jeta Xharra in the studio:

Arsim Halili, journalist at RTK
Fisnik Dërguti, journalist at RTK;
Halil Matoshi, from daily Koha Ditore;
Berat Buzhala, from daily Express;
Ibrahim Berisha, media adviser to the President of Kosovo;
Arsim Rexhepi, MP at the Parliament of Kosovo;
Lutfi Haziri, MP at the Parliament of Kosovo ,

During the show, BIRN broadcast an exclusive interview with Andy McGuffie, spokesperson for the International Civilian Office.

At the end of the show, BIRN did also broadcast inserts from the celebration of the show’s fourth anniversary.

Life in Kosovo is a co-production between Kosovo Public Television, RTK and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN. It is broadcast every Thursday, starting at 20:20.
