Obstacles to the other side

25 December 2007  On the summer-autumn of 2007, BIRN Kosovo young team of journalist produced a short documentary on youth freedom of movement in Kosovo, "Obstacles to the other side".

The 17-minute documentary tackles problems facing Kosovo’s youth in their efforts to move around freely in their homeland and tells the stories of seven young Kosovo Serbs and Albanians, who reveal the problems and barriers they face during their everyday lives.

“Obstacles to the other side”, was warmly welcomed by the public, who showed much interest in the young people who told their stories in the film.

Some of the comments received after the screening and broadcasting of the documentary on TV, are as bellow:

"A brilliant documentary for a very concerning topic. It is very balanced and unbiased" - Annelies van den Berg, SPARK

"Great documentary. The topic was tackled in its heart and the message of the film is what Kosovo needs most" - Rob Gulick, AMCHAM

"Well done! It's the best approach to this sensitive issue" - Mendurim, a student of psychology

“Well done, just well done! It was perfectly conceived, greatly realized and very well edited…”
Lulzim Peci, head of KIPRED

“It shows a piece of Kosovo’s reality”, Nita Hasani, a student said about the documentary.

"I can't help writing that the last part when the Serbian guy [who is visiting the southern part of Mitrovica for the first time in eight years ever since he flew to the north] is amazed by the buildings made in the southern part, has truly astounded me. Superrr"-Sarah Maliqi, executive director of Youth Initiative for Human Rights

“Obstacles to the Other Side” is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy, NED, through the Youth Initiative for Human Rights, YIHR
